British Forces Dummersee Sail Training Centre
 

 

The British Forces Dümmersee Sail Training Centre is located on the shores of the Dümmersee by the village of Lembruch. An RYA recognised teaching establishment for sailing and windsurfing for members of British Forces (Germany) and entitled personnel.

The Club is an ideal place to take a break, relaxing and enjoying what the Dümmer has to offer.

Sailing and windsurfing regattas are often held on weekends and the Club enters Joint Services level competitions. A programme of courses are held throughout the year allowing RYA qualifications to be gained.

The club has accommodation for families and groups or individuals offering bar and restaurant facilities. Bed and Breakfast and full board is available.

For those who don't wish to sail there are a wide variety of other activities close to have such as swimming, paddle-boating, mini golf, go-karting and much much more.

Dummersee Adventure 2010

There are Sailing and Windsurfing Courses from 2nd to 6th August for young people aged 11 - 15 years. The cost is €200 inclusive. Further information from the club, contact details below.

Army Sailing Association - North West Europe Open Windsurfing Championships - Renesse Holland 23rd - 26th Aug 2010

The ASA North West Europe Open Windsurfing Championships will be held at Renesse, Holland on 23rd - 26th Aug 2010. Entry is open to Tri-services regular personnel, members of the reserves, Ex Military, MOD civil servants and their dependants. This is the 21st year that this event has taken place and it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

All available British Forces Windsurfers from the UK and Germany are encouraged to attend. Competitors for the main competition should be capable of racing a formula/short board on open sea. Novices are invited to attend and enter the new novice event to be run on the Grevlingenmeer.

Timings are as follows:

Mon 23rd Aug 2010 - 11:00 Race Rigistration Opens Bouwersdam Car Park. No race before 13:00.

Mon 23rd - Thurs 26th Aug 2010 - 4-day race programme. Long distance, Master Blaster, Slalom, Giant Slalom, Course Racing and Freestyle. Novice training and race.

Thurs 26th Aug 2010 - Sponsors Price Giving Function.

The individual entry fee is £30 or 33 euros per competitor.

Courses

From absolute beginners to expert boat handlers we have the sailing courses for you. We can provide an introduction to sailing using a Topper dinghy, to providing a number of other courses that will improve any sailors' skills that you may have, including Dinghy Seamanship and also Dinghy Racing.
For those who have a greater experience in sailing we also offer courses enabling you to obtain RYA Instructor and Assistant Instructor qualifications. So click on the Course descriptions and times and book yourself onto the next course that can improve your sailing standards.

Ever thought about trying to windsurf? Well now you can. Here at the British Forces Dümmersee Sail Training Centre we can offer you not only Dinghy lessons but we can also get you on a board.

For those who have never been on a board before we offer a "Fast forward start windsurfing to advance courses" where you will be taught the basics of windsurfing using the correct equipment.

Once you have mastered the basics there are a number of other courses provided that will improve your techniques and introduce you to more complicated manoeuvres such as planing and gybes.

BFDSTC Shop

The club offers merchandise from www.gul.com at discounted rates just look at the site, call the club and place your order. Wet boots are held in stock with prices from 15 to 35 euros.

If you or your unit want to look the part with BFDSTC t-shirts they can be pre-ordered (which is advisable) or ordered on arrival. This fashionable addition to the wardrobe is proving popular with many wearing them in the end of course photographs.

Windsurfing equipment can also be purchased at prices up to 30% of list price. The equipment is sold by a local shop. Just visit the shop, see what you want and the club will assist with the purchase.

 


Regattas

Here at the BFDSTC we encourage our members to take part in races through the club in both Sailing and Windsurfing. The racing is centred around the racing program which is included in the BFDSTC calendar, however we don't just stay at the club often we travel to a number of other countries and venues to take part in the Regattas being held.

So if you want to take part in these Regattas, or even just want to watch for a fun day out, then why not take a look at the racing Calendar that is on offer and contact the club for further information. Please note however that these Calendars were correct at the time of press, therefore you should contact the club for Regatta Confirmation.

Our address is:

(and use the car park at the end of the road)

To find us, take the B51 North East from Osnabrück towards Diepholz and Bremen. About 35 minutes out of Osnabrück, you will come to a Esso garage (on the left), continue to the next petrol station on the right. Turn left in to the village of Lembruch continue through the village until you see a white fencing on the left. Drive on and just out of the village turn second left (Dummer Str.) at the end of the road is a car park. There are no parking fees, however you should not park on the road or you could get a ticket from the local police!

If the chain is on you can get the key from club.
